A teenage girl who overdosed on fentanyl last week has died, the RCMP has revealed.
The 16-year-old, whose name has not been made public, was found unconscious at a home in Prince George early on Thursday morning.
Police said she was taken to hospital, but died over the weekend.
They said the investigation into her death is “ongoing” and remains “a top priority.”

“Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the young victim, in their time of tragedy and loss,” Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, the PG detachment’s media relations officer, explained in a public bulletin.
Last week, Mounties explained the girl had “high levels of fentanyl in her blood.”
They also sought to remind the public that, while possession of up to 2.5 grams of certain hard drugs is permitted for adults, that exemption does not apply to children. Those selling drugs to kids face “potentially serious consequences,” the Mounties added.
“When the actions of a drug trafficker result in a death these consequences can increase substantially,” Sgt. Whitehouse, commander of the Prince George RCMP’s serious crime unit, said at the time.
“In Prince George, all drug related deaths are investigated by the RCMP and the BC Coroners Service. In this case, we also recognize the exceedingly high expectation on police from the public when a youth appears to have been targeted by a fentanyl trafficker.”
